Cascade/Jefferson/NSYA Soccer Rules

Primary Goal: make sure the kids have a fun and safe learning experience.

3rd and 4th Grade Soccer

Field Size:                       180’ x 120’

Ball Size:                        4

Goal Size:                       12’ x 6’

Players on Field:          9

Game Duration:           Two 25 minute halves with a 5 minute Halftime.

Game Start:                   Ball placed at center mid field.  Home team will put ball in play.  Ball must
                                         be passed vertically to player to start game.
                                         RESULT: If ball is not passed vertically, play will be restarted.

Hand Ball:                      A hand ball shall be called if player intentionally makes contact with the
                                         ball with any part of their hand or arm.
                                         RESULT: Ball gets turned over and a free kick is awarded to the team that
                                         did not commit the penalty. Penalized team must give at least 10 feet of
                                         space prior to ball being put back in play.

Out of Play:                   A Ball will be determined out of play when it completely crosses either
                                         the sideline or end line.
                                         RESULT: If ball is out of play, ball is given to appropriate team and a two-
                                         handed over the head throw with two feet on the ground must be
                                         attempted before play can continue. Three total attempts should be
                                         made.  No matter what, play will continue after the third attempt. After
                                         the 3rd Week, the overhead throw must be completed on the 1st attempt
                                         with both feet on the ground.  Failure to complete a legal throw-in from
                                         this point forward in the season will result in the ball being turned over to
                                         the other team. 

Scoring:                          The ball must completely pass the white end line to be considered a
                                         goal.  If the Keeper is behind the end line while holding the ball, then it is
                                         considered a goal.
                                         RESULT: If Keeper is making an attempt to pick up the ball, Offensive
                                         players are not allowed to continuously kick at the ball. If this occurs,
                                         Official will blow whistle to stop play and award a Goal Kick to the
                                         Keeper’s team. 

Heading, Tackling       
and High Kicks:             NOT ALLOWED
                                         RESULT: 1st Offense – a warning will be given to all players.
                                         2nd Offense - will result in the other team receiving a Free Kick. 
                                         3rd Offense – Coach will be asked to sit player for a minimum of 5
                                         minutes.

Aggressive Play:           Purposely pushing, shoving, tripping or use of elbows is not allowed.
                                         RESULT: 1st Offense – warning directly to the player. 2nd Offense – Ball
                                         gets turned over and a free kick is awarded to the other team.
                                         3rd Offense – Coach will be asked to sit player for a minimum of 5
                                         minutes.

Corner Kicks:                 When Offensive team kicks toward the end line and ball is deflected by a
                                         Defensive Player or the Keeper, Official will award a Corner Kick from
                                         appropriate sideline (depending on what side of the goal the ball goes
                                         out on) to Offensive Team.
                                         RESULT: The ball will be placed on appropriate corner and an Offensive
                                         player will put the ball back into play.  All players must give 10 feet of
                                         space before corner kick can be made.

Goal Kicks:                     A goal kick will be awarded when the ball last touches an Offensive player
                                         and completely cross the end line without touching a Defensive Player or
                                         the Keeper.
                                         RESULT: The ball will be placed on top corner of Goal Box (depending on
                                         what side of the goal the ball goes out on) and any Defensive Player or
                                         the Keeper can put the ball into play.  All other players must give them a
                                         minimum of 10 feet before they can make the kick.

Direct Kick:                    A Direct Kick is taken from where the offense occurred. Once the ball is
                                         put back into play, the Offensive Player cannot touch the ball again until
                                         it is touched by another player.  A Direct Kick is awarded to the opposing
                                         team if a player commits any of the following offenses in a manner
                                         considered by the Official to be careless, reckless or using excessive
                                         force: Kicks, Trips, Strikes, Pushes or Tackles or makes any attempt to do
                                         any of these things. 

Indirect Kick:                 An Indirect Kick is taken from where the offence occurred.  Once the ball
                                         is put back into play, the Offensive Player cannot touch the ball again
                                         until it is touched by another player.  An Indirect Kick is also awarded to
                                         the opposing team if, in the opinion of the Official, a player: plays in a
                                         dangerous manner, prevents the Keeper from releasing the ball from
                                         his/her hands, commits any other offense previously mentioned in the
                                         Direct Kick Rule.
